Facts: How many Americans today follow a healthy diet?

The typical American diet is extremely acid-forming, devastating the body’s mechanisms for eliminating excess acid. The staples of the standard American diet are dairy, meat, wheat, refined sugars, and corn (all acidifying foods). In unison, the American diet is notably deficient in alkalizing vegetables and fruits.

The alkaline diet significantly decreases this acid load, helping to lessen the strain on your body’s acid-detoxification systems, as the kidneys.

The levels of effort needed to use alkaline diet are considered “High” as there are numerous foods that need to be excepted in this particular diet 6 .

Note: An alkaline-forming tendency or food’s acid in our body has nothing to do with the pH of the food. Although it may seem that citrus fruits could have acidifying effects on the body, the citric acid they consist actually has alkalinizing effects in the body system.

Most fruits that aren’t ripe are acid-forming. The most alkaline fruits are the organic ones – they are grown in mineral-dense soil.

Conclusion:

There may be value in considering an alkaline diet in reducing mortality and morbidity from some chronic diseases and further researches are warranted in this particular area of medicine. But, there is no considerable evidence that this diet can improve bone health or protect from osteoporosis.

However, well-balanced alkaline diet can result in numerous health benefits as outlined above.
