Macedonia Fruit Salad: Traditional Italian Recipe

Serves 4

Ingredients:

  • 5 large black plums
  • 2 nectarines
  • 2 pears
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 200 g/7 oz. red grapes
  • 200 g/7 oz. white grapes
  • 2 tbsps. caster sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla sugar
  • 7 tbsps. freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 60 ml/2 ΒΌ fl oz. amaretto
  • 2 fresh figs

Directions

Stone the plums and nectarines and cut into thin wedges. Peel and quarter the pears, remove the cores and cut into cubes. Place the fruit in a bowl and sprinkle with the lime juice.

Halve the grapes and remove any seeds with the point of a knife. Combine the caster sugar and vanilla sugar with the orange juice and amaretto. Pour this over the fruit and gently toss so all the fruit is coated. Chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour.

Quarter the figs and place in a bowl with the fruit salad. Serve.
