Best diets 2018 are finally revealed! If this year is your year to shed weight, US News, and World Report has cut through the fat and publicized their annual report for Best Diets 2018.
It’s one of the greatest resolutions people make every year – slimming down.
From DASH to Dukan, Paleo, and Weight Watchers, what works in terms of reducing diabetes, weight loss, and even heart health has become a minefield.
The report was prepared by health professionals ranking 38 diets between 1 and 5 stars. The panel ranged in health experts specializing in nutrition, diet, food psychology, obesity, heart disease, and diabetes.
From nutritional value to safety, the panelists gave their views on each diet and exposed what they liked and disliked about every single eating plan.
The profiles for each diet described how the diet plan worked, resolute whether it lived up to its statement and scrutinized any possible health risk. The outlines also revealed personal account on what it was like to live on every diet program. Once every diet received a rating, US News & World Report adopted the scores to stars with 5 stars being the top rating.
For a diet to receive the highest rating, the diet plan had to be healthy, safe and effective for preventing heart disease and diabetes and weight loss.
The Best Overall Diet, the leading category, was taken out by the DASH eating plan for the 6th year in a row, getting a general score of 4.1 out of 5. The plan, known as the Dietary Approach to Stopping Hypertension, was originally created to help control high blood pressure, concentrate on a healthy pattern of eating that includes lots of lean proteins, vegetables, and whole grains.
According to Kristen Beck, an Australian nutritionist:
“The popularity of the DASH diet is amazing, simply because the DASH diet is principally a healthy eating plan which is user-friendly and even offers menu plans which you can tailor. The focus of the DASH diet is consuming healthy foods like fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy, lean protein, and whole grains, while limiting or eradicating those we have grown to love like read meat, and fat-laden and calorie sweets.”
In at number 2 was the MIND diet, which is a combination of the Mediterranean and DASH, emphasizing on more nuts, olives, and fish.
“Of all the diets stated, I would agree that the DASH diet is probably the best because of its simple focus on healthy eating, along with some really well-designed plans and structure to keep you on track,” Ms. Beck assumed.
As for people looking for a fast fix, this year the panel involved a category for ‘Best Fast Weight-Loss Diet.’ The professionals revealed the HMR Program and the Biggest Loser eating plan as having the fastest results.
This plan focuses on 6 weeks of regular exercise and healthy food, while the HMR program focuses on weight loss and keeping it off through added vegetables, physical activity, and fruits, and meal replacements.
Meal replacements for weight loss are usually criticized as being unsustainable, however, chief medical officer at the HMR program asserts the program provides long-term results and is very easy to stick to.
“A common misconception is that losing weight fast is not sustainable, and not healthy, and will only lead to future weight regains,” said Carol Addy. However, various clinical studies reveal that following a lifestyle change program that promotes quick initial weight loss could result in better long-term success.
“Fast weight loss is not something I recommend, IF you are really ready for long-term change,” Ms. Beck claimed.
