Anne’s Letter
Dear Reader,
When I was first diagnosed with cancer, it felt like the ground beneath me had crumbled. I thought about my family, my dreams, and all the things I still wanted to do. I couldn’t help but wonder: how would I face this? How would they face this?
The truth is, I didn’t have all the answers. But what I’ve learned on this journey is that you don’t need to have answers. You just need love, support, and a little courage to take it one day at a time.
Facing a Terminal Diagnosis
Hearing the word “terminal” is something no one can prepare for. It’s overwhelming, heartbreaking, and terrifying. But over time, I learned to stop seeing it as an ending and instead as an opportunity to live fully.
Cancer gave me clarity. It stripped away the noise and reminded me of what truly matters—love, connection, and the small, beautiful moments we so often take for granted.
The Power of Support
I cannot begin to describe the difference it made to have people who cared, not only my family but also the incredible team at Cancer Council NSW. They offered more than just practical support; they offered dignity, compassion, and understanding.
They reminded me that I wasn’t alone, even on the darkest days. And through their encouragement, I found the strength to face my diagnosis with resilience.
To those who support organizations like Cancer Council NSW, please know how much you mean to people like me. You’re not just helping individuals—you’re lifting entire families through their toughest moments.
What I Want You to Remember
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: life is fleeting, but love endures. It’s the love we give and the love we receive that defines our lives—not the things we accomplish, own, or leave behind.
Here are some lessons I want to share with you:
- Cherish the Present: Stop waiting for the “right” time to live your life. Celebrate the small joys today.
- Be Kind: You never know what someone else is going through. A simple act of kindness can mean the world to someone in pain.
- Don’t Be Afraid to Lean on Others: It’s okay to ask for help and let others be there for you. Support is not a sign of weakness—it’s a sign of humanity.
- Advocate for Your Health: Listen to your body, speak up, and don’t delay seeking medical advice.
A Message to My Family
To my family, you’ve been my anchor, my strength, and my joy. I know my time here is limited, but the love we’ve shared is eternal. Please remember me not for my illness, but for the life we built together.
Dear reader, if you are facing a similar journey, please know that you are not alone. And if you are someone who supports others through their battles, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Cancer may take my body, but it will never take my spirit. My hope is that my story reminds you to live, love, and appreciate the precious time we all have.
With love,
Anne
