A delicious and unique dessert that everybody loves! Ready in 10 minutes, simple and easy, this is the Italian version of the popular chocolate salami dessert, perfect for any occasion! The great combination of chocolate, hazelnuts, biscuits, and a nice touch of Amaretto/rum/brandy provide a very special taste of this treat. Many cultures are preparing this dessert and the ingredients are very similar, but if you try it in different countries it really has a unique taste. Here is the Italian version of chocolate salami:
Servings 12
Ingredients:
- 220 grams plain biscuits (like digestive biscuits or Scotch Fingers)
- ¼ cup (50 grams) toasted hazelnuts halved
- 140 grams unsalted butter, softened
- 2 eggs
- 90 grams granulated sugar
- 200 grams dark chocolate, melted and cooled
- A splash of alcohol (Amaretto, rum, or brandy)
- Icing sugar, to cover
Instructions:
- Frist, coarsely crush the biscuits. Set aside. Next, toast the hazelnut (if not having them store-bought or ready) in a medium preheated oven for 7-10 minutes. Set aside.
- In a microwave or over a very low heat, in a heatproof bowl, melt the chocolate. Allow cooling.
- In the meantime, using an electric mixer (on slow) or a whisk, beat the butter and sugar together. Apply the eggs and whisk all over again to combine.
- Add the cooled chocolate and alcohol and mix well.
- Stir in the toasted halved hazelnuts and crushed biscuits. Combine to incorporate.
- Transfer the mixture onto a baking paper sheet and shape it into a salami.
- Then, roll it in aluminum foil. Make sure it is tight; refrigerate to firm and set for at least 4 hours (ideally overnight). When set, roll it in some icing sugar, slice and serve!
Buon Appetito!
